Impersonal Technology

Ever get the feeling that no one wants to communicate in the world anymore?
I've been trying to get a hold of the insurance guy so I can finally get my car fixed before classes start again next week. All I keep getting is his voicemail and unreturned messages that I've left regarding the situation.
Then I thought ... in a customer service related business such as insurance claims ... this sure is an impersonal way
to keep in contact with customers. How many people are on voicemail these days? Seems like every business/company uses some sort of voicemail or the infamous 'press the #' method for customer service. Whatever happened to personalized attention/conversations? Call me crazy but I prefer a simple hello anyday.

Here Comes The Bride
|
I had the honour of attending the wedding of one of my friends from the college. My friend, the bride, was of course lovely in her wedding dress. It was also nice seeing a few people from my classes as well. I'm sure we'll have a blast taking over the campus paper come September.
Looking around during the dinner reception, the magnitude of the commitment that Melanie has made really dawned on me when I saw all the other couples together at their tables. Then I realized another thing .... while we're still technically "students" and perhaps finding our way in the world .... at the same time, we're also already full fledged contributing members of society ... getting ready to live the 9 - 5 kinda life that defines who we are.
Here is one friend getting married, another having a baby, and more moving out on their own or with their companions facing life on their own.
It's like realizing that the last ounce of innocence and security and perhaps, naivity, you can hang on to as student begins to dissipate and returns to that cycle waiting for the next soon-to-be college student to take, so that in a few years, he or she can realize the same thing I have. LoL. :)
And then I thought ... what will my 9 - 5 kinda life be like in a few years? Melanie's will definitely involve her husband. Rosalind will have her child. What will yours involve? Think about it and let me know! :)

Name My Car!!
|
So all through my car ordeal (finding the perpetrators, dealing with the insurance company, finding a place to fix the damage), I've noticed that I don't have a name for my car. And to me, that's just wrong, lol. So I'm officially announcing the Name My Car contest.
My car pretty much looks like the one in the picture, except mine is navy blue. Characteristics? Well, it likes to travel ... it smells nice inside ... and has been known to give a lift or two to friends in need. Think you've got a great name? Submit your suggestion simply by responding to this message :)
The winner will be announced when I've got enough names to choose from, haha. Prize? Well, I haven't thought of any, but how about my respect and gratitude forever and ever?

Good Karma/Bad Luck??
|
Last night, some moron hit my car in a parking lot and decided to drive off. I'm still quite bitter about the whole incident. LoL. Anyhoo, I was lucky enough that a few witnesses jotted down the license plate of the car that hit me and with a bit of luck, perhaps the police and insurance companies can track the person down. A hit and run can be punishable by revokement of license, not to mention incarceration.
So after spending a few hours (arg!) at the collision reporting centre at 39 Division, I got to thinking how lucky I was that someone saw the car that hit mine. Could it have been good karma on my part for returning the cash that I found at the supermarket the other night? (refer to the posting before this one) Is this a good example of the saying "One good deed deserves another"? Is this good karma, but bad luck? Is everything in fact, all relative on this planet? Or was I just lucky this time around? What do you guys think?
I had to take a few pictures of my smashed up baby for files and insurance and so on. Perhaps I'll post a picture of the damage done to my car for you guys to see in a few days.

What Would You Do???
|
I just got back from a lil midnight grocery shopping at the 24-hr. Dominion and I had a lil experience which made me wonder what other people might have done had they been in my shoes.
They've got those do-it-yourself checkout counters there. So as I'm scanning my stuff, (which consisted of bagels, cheese, baby carrots, dip, and those bagel crisps thingies) I noticed that there was cash in the cash return slot. The gentlemen before me who used this particular machine must have asked for the 'cash return option' when he paid by debit. There was over $60 cash and I'm wondering what to do.
Should I take it?
Should I find the man?
So I called the operator person over and told her bout the money, and sure enough, she checked her computer that keeps a record of all transactions, the money did in fact belong to that man. She thanked me which was nice. As I was walking out the door, the security guard stopped me to shake my hand and thanked me for being so honest. I was quite pleased, and to be honest, that kind of made my day.
I know some people might think I'm competely stupid for not taking the money. Now my question to you is, what would you have done? Would you have kept the money? Done something else?
